PhysicianIndiana Complex Care Coordination Collaborative - Preventive Care for People with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
Mary Ciccarelli, Morris Green Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Pediatrics, and Katharina Weber, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Pediatrics, are the recipients of the 2025 Bantz Community Fellowship Award for their project “Indiana Complex Care Coordination Collaborative - Preventive Care for People with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD).” The Indiana Complex Care Coordination Collaborative (IC4) at the School of Medicine partnered with Special Olympics Indiana to develop a person-centered website, 4ourhealth.org. The website includes multimedia tools to teach patients with intellectual disability about self-management, health system navigation, and preventive care. A team of clinicians and students will together assess website user experience at structured observation sessions through Special Olympics Indiana and the Village of Merici. User and observer feedback and analysis of recorded observations will be used to improve the website prior to broader dissemination to other institutions and programs. Involving people with IDD in all aspects of the project from need identification, content exploration and development, research design and sharing of results is anchored in the phrase “Nothing about us without us.”
Mary's translation of research into making resources and information easily accessible to all people is another excellent example of how IU Indianapolis's faculty members are TRANSLATING their RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE.
