Last month, the IUPUI Center for Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) hosted its annual Keynote featuring IU President Pamela Whitten. Over 100 people attended in-person and virtually. Many thanks to everyone who participated in this event.

Dr. Devon Hensel has a broad background in behavioral science, adolescent development, gender and sexuality, innovative research methodology/data collection approaches and multi-level/complex data analysis. 

A key component of health promotion of community-based research is engaging as many community members as possible. During this conversation, Dr. Hensel will share how two different community-based studies leveraged innovative recruitment, data collection and retention methods to decrease barriers to study participation. Congratulations to Edward E. Curtis IV, the William M. and Gail M. Plater Chair of Liberal Arts and professor of religious studies in the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts  He and his research collaborators were awarded $250,000 by the Religion and Theology Program of the Henry Luce Foundation. In this research project, members of the Lucumí, Candomblé, and Vodou communities; Black and African Sunni and Shi‘a Muslims; Sufi lodges and knowledge networks; and Black new religious movements will be engaged in the documentation, analysis and development of solutions to the discrimination and violence that they face as practitioners of Africana religions. Community members will then attend an in-person workshop to share findings and identify ways to work together to increase advocacy efforts and reduce violence against their communities. A consortium will follow, allowing the researchers to implement short-term goals identified during the workshop. The researchers plan to develop an open-access digital portal to launch in 2024 that will analyze, digest and reflect on what was learned from the project.  Learn more.

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Kelley on receiving $10,000 from the Riley Children's Foundation for the "Tom Wood Lexus Foundation Lexxll" project.

Congratulations to Dr. Xiongbin Lu on receiving $501,827 from the National Cancer Institute to study "Targeting immunoproteasome-mediated antigen presentation in colorectal cancer immunotherapy."

EPIC Request for Applications: Beginning in May 2022, the IU Environmental Resilience Institute will convene 3 to 5 faculty led groups to develop a written product designed to attract research funding for resilience topics.
