Join the #BantzCommunity on #IUDay
|
As chancellor of IUPUI from 2003 to 2015, Charles R. Bantz firmly believed in the power of community-engaged research and university-community partnerships that make lasting impacts on our lives, city, state, nation, and beyond.
The Charles R. Bantz Chancellor’s Community Research Fund ensures this legacy lives on by providing a unique funding opportunity for IUPUI faculty researchers and their community partners. Last year, Dr. Leslie Etienne and Dean Tambra Jackson worked on a project that addressed summer learning loss and literacy for elementary-aged children. Other funded projects include helping low-income Hoosiers get access to affordable health insurance, empowering current and formerly incarcerated women in retelling the history of women’s prisons, supporting women in the advancement of their professional careers, working with local organizations to make communities environmentally safer for residents, and so much more.
Please join us on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 in our goal to raise $5,000 for the Charles R. Bantz Chancellor’s Community Research Fund. Make sure to follow us on all of our social media platforms to be a part of the fun on #IUDay!

Interactions Between Social and Environmental Vulnerability
|
Social vulnerability is the limited ability of communities to respond to an external stressor such as a heat wave or epidemic. Environmental vulnerability is the environmental stressors that a location is likely to experience. When social and environmental vulnerabilities overlap, there is a high likelihood of significant negative impacts in the local community. During this conversation, Professor Daniel Johnson, Associate Professor of Geography in the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts, will share how he uses predictive analytics to create models that can forecast the effects of extreme events. These models are useful as preparation tools for disaster or as aids to plan for mitigation of potential hazards.
