At its core, the IU Indianapolis Center for Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) proudly showcases the contributions that our faculty make to others. IU Indianapolis faculty members are making a difference to farmers, manufacturers, the service industry, our waterways, policy makers, educators, and to the health and well-being of our citizens through their focus on translational research. Their translational research intentionally targets a problem and constructs an answer based on researched evidence.
What is translational research? Translational research occurs when researchers/scholars generate new knowledge, collaborate/form partnerships with community leaders and groups, then use this information to develop meaningful, evidenced-based practices that solve problems people face in their everyday lives. These problems range from complex social, health, governmental, cultural, and relational issues.
-
Translational research is interdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary.
-
This kind of community engaged research targets the goal of making a difference in people’s lives.
-
Translational research takes knowledge generated from scientific inquiry or humanistic scholarship and transforms that knowledge into practices and solutions.
Examples of Translational Research in Action
"Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world." - Louis Pasteur
