"Cultural Inclusivity and Sustainability in the New Urban Era"
Open to public event at 7 PM at the Ebenezer Church, 1901 N Harding St, Indianapolis
Description: We are living in a New Urban Era. Many American cities are growing and their populations are diversifying, Such growth often portends the gentrification of neighborhoods and the displacement—both physical and psychological—of long-time residents. Denver, Colorado has long been known as a success story for its “New Urbanist” re-development of old suburban shopping malls and downtown warehouse districts. In this talk, Professor Saitta took stock of the planning and design progress that Denver is making—or not—in meeting New Urban Era challenges. This stock-taking has lessons for other American cities concerned with prioritizing urban development that is inclusive, equitable, inter-culturally sensitive, and sustainable.
