Navigating the Major Facilities Data Lifecycle
NSF Major Facilities (MFs) represent the largest science and engineering research investments made by NSF. There are approximately 20 NSF MFs that span scientific domains, including astronomy, climate research, ecology, natural hazard engineering research, ocean science, physics, and seismology. They are highly diverse, complex, and heterogeneous. This program (https://ci-compass.org/) is designed to help NSF Major Facilities (MFs) advance their scientific missions by supporting and enhancing the national cyberinfrastructure ecosystem that currently underpins the scientific endeavors of NSF Major Facilities (MFs). By advising on, curating, and preserving the data collected by the NSF Major Facilities, this research will help safeguard critical data for current and future scientists, enabling and ensuring scientific research and discovery for generations to come.
