Theory-based approaches to facilitating a physically active lifestyle among older adults
I apply motivational theories from health and social psychology disciplines to understand and implement health behavior change (such as facilitating physical activity), among older adults, and population groups that experience greater barriers than the general population. My clinical trials are focused in real-world environments, such as the home, with a goal to effectively translate the behavior intervention beyond the completion of the study. My research includes collaboration among researchers in health sciences, kinesiology, psychology, and clinicians. I also collaborate with community-based organizations such as CICOA and YMCA to understand topics and areas that would benefit from research investigation. I publish evidence-based research in peer reviewed journals that include longitudinal observational studies which support my randomized-controlled trials.
