Vicarious Trauma Among Frontline Nurses Caring for COVID-19 Patients in Three Countries
Nurses are experiencing the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurses are at risk for negative side effects related to the trauma they experience as a result of caring for patients with COVID-19. Many nurse researchers are investigating the implications of the impact of the pandemic on the field of nursing. The evidence found in this study is two fold. Nurses who perceived having adequate PPE had lower vicarious trauma scores, and nurses with a higher level of education had lower vicarious trauma scores. Based on this small study, nursing scientists are aware of two instances that mitigate vicarious trauma; likely there are more.
