Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use and Emotional Disorders, Racial Injustice
The highest level of intervention research is meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). My publications have systematically evaluated various forms of research and quantitatively synthesized RCTs to provide specific social work and cross disciplinary implications for practice. In social work and other professions there is often a disconnect between clinically relevant research findings and everyday practice. I have used meta-analytic and psychometric research to bridge the gap between clinical research and clinical practice. Based on my published research I have spoken nationally and internationally on practice issues (to social work and other helping professions) as they relate cognitive-behavioral therapy and persons of African descent. I am currently doing qualitative and preliminary psychometric (content validity) research for a cultural trauma (CuTS) scale I am developing to quantitatively measure the experience of racial injustice from the perspective of Black men. The CuTS will have cross disciplinary implications for measuring and assessing (reliably and validly) the outcomes of multilevel interventions to reduce cultural trauma in Black men.
