Center for Software & Innovation
The Center for Software and Innovation (The Center), which I founded in 2017, serves as a foundation for translating researching into practice through collaborative and interdisciplinary research that impacts the everyday community. Through the Center, undergraduate students translate what they have learned in class into practice by participating on real-world software development projects for researchers from the IUPUI community. The projects designed and implemented by students, under my guidance, range from web applications to mobile applications to Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. Since The Center’s inception, we have completed 8 projects and have helped produce 4 publications and 1 U.S. patent. The patent was for a smart pillbox, which was The Center’s inaugural project. Lastly, the Center has provided real-world experience to 25+ undergraduate Computer Science and Herron School of Art and Design students, where ~27% were from minority and/or underrepresented groups.
