Community engaged research to advance mental and behavioral practice within underserved populations and communities
My work advances mental and behavioral health by utilizing community based participatory research methods within community program design. Without robust community programming, specifically for underrepresented minorities, greater inequities in mental and behavioral health would exist. Therefore, my community engaged work is critical and evident throughout my research agenda. More specifically my research seeks to fill an unmet nationwide; to address the significant behavioral healthcare workforce shortage by utilizing the profession of occupational therapy as behavioral health providers thereby changing community structure, state policy, and providing a model for other States to enhance their mental and behavioral health workforce capacity.
