Understanding the role of the social and structural determinants of health on access to liver disease care
My research focuses on understanding barriers to end stage liver disease care. We currently are enrolling a prospective cohort of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to better understand how the structural and social determinants of health pose barriers to receiving curative therapies for HCC. We have some preliminary data that has allowed us to design an intervention to mitigate these barriers. This intervention was designed based on evidence from the literature in other malignancies, initiatives that have been taken in general medicine, as well as nurse led interventions.
